Some Days

Some days go as follows:

You wake up low on sleep. Everyone has a short temper. You feed people breakfast. The baby decides to forgo his morning nap. Getting out the door to Aldi takes approximately 1.5 hours.

When you arrive (looking disheveled and un-showered), you realize you didn't bring any bags. You make your way through the store, with one kid crying the whole time and the other getting into everything. Somehow onlookers see past all this and comment on how adorable the children are. The store does not have two of the items you need, so you quietly mourn the fact that you'll have to make another errand sometime in the next 24 hours.

As you check out, you forget to buy bags in place of the ones you forgot. By this point, everyone is at the end of their rope. So you decide it's better to leave the store bagless than to try and figure out how to get back in line to get some. When you arrive at the car, you realize the trunk is full and the backseat has two car seats in it. So you put your food (including the many unnecessary impulse purchases that you made in your distracted, hungry, grumpy state) in the passenger seat.

When you get home, you put the kids in front of the tv and dump a basketful of clean laundry onto the floor... So that you can use the basket to carry in the groceries, of course. You manage to put the refrigerated items away and feed your children a nice wholesome lunch of hot dogs and potato chips.

The big one decides to throw a tantrum instead of eating said lunch because you were terrible and only let her watch one episode of Daniel Tiger. The little one fusses about life and throws his vegetables on the floor. You decide to take this opportunity to escape and post about it all on social media. You can't blame them for fussing when things don't go their way, because you know they learned it from you.

Yes, some days go like that. On those days, it's good to remember that Jesus died for this too. And then thank God for bringing you to and from the grocery store alive and for giving you the blessings of children and health and enough food. And naptime.
